A sports bar with three locations around the state’s capital is planning to make the trip up I-95.

Richmond-based Wood & Iron is expected to open up in Virginia Square next year, on the ground level of a new mixed-use building planned for George Mason University’s Arlington campus.

Despite recent improvements, a history of complaints related to noise and rowdy customers at Darna Lounge has attracted county scrutiny in a five-year permit review.

The lounge and restaurant at 946 N. Jackson Street has been the subject of 285 police calls and three citations for noise violations since 2019, a county staff report says.

Update at 8:55 p.m. — Dominion is still reporting 663 customers without power in the area, with an updated restoration time range between 11 p.m.-4 a.m. According to an email shared with ARLnow by a local resident, the outage involves burned underground power lines that need to be replaced and tested.

A Virginia Square park is becoming something of a destination for local food trucks.

At least three portable establishments have set up shop at Oakland Park since 2023. Though it only takes up a single block, the green space at 3705 Wilson Blvd is becoming a destination for locals in need of a hot drink or a bite to eat.

A food truck serving Guatemalan cuisine out of Virginia Square’s Oakland Park opened for business earlier this month.

Parked near the intersection of N. Oakland Street and Wilson Blvd, Portal Maya has hopes to be the community’s “entryway to the Mayan world,” owner and founder Bayron Cisneros told ARLnow.

Two teens are facing charges after a series of burglaries in the Virginia Square area led to a police chase and Taser deployment.

The incident started shortly before 1:30 a.m. this morning after police responded to a burglary in progress at the Arlington Tobacco store on the 3400 block of Washington Blvd. Arriving officers searched the area but could not locate the suspects, according to scanner traffic.

A new Southwestern-style restaurant in Virginia Square is on track to open in the next few weeks.

The only items left on the to-do list for Anita’s, which has been serving New Mexican cuisine at other Northern Virginia locations for about 50 years, are minor cosmetic updates.

For at least the fourth time since late June, Dominion customers in Ballston and Virginia Square area are without power.

The outage started around 2 a.m. this morning, residents tell ARLnow, and an outage map shows it affecting roughly the same area as previous outages on June 24, July 15 and July 23.

Temporary storage of county buses at a Virginia Square parking lot could continue for another year.

A use permit for 1425 N. Quincy Street, currently used as a storage site for 29 ART buses, was previously renewed in January and scheduled for a six-month review. Now, a county report recommends renewing the permit until July 31, 2025 — at which point work on the permanent ART Operations and Maintenance Facility in Green Valley should be complete.

A third Tortas y Tacos la Chiquita is set to open next week in Virginia Square.

Restaurant Owner David Villalobos said the menu at Tortas y Tacos la Chiquita III on 3811 Fairfax Drive will be a “copy and paste” of other Tortas y Tacos locations on Columbia Pike and in Merrifield.
