A 23-year-old D.C. woman is facing several charges after an incident that prompted a sizable police response at the Pentagon City mall.

It happened Tuesday morning when an officer confronted a shoplifting suspect, who then allegedly tried to flee, leading to a foot pursuit and a struggle.

Monday Afternoon Car Chase — “@PFPAOfficial & @ArlingtonVaPD had a report of someone breaking into cars in the lot across from Target around p.m. Officers converged on the lot looking for the person, but he had already gotten into a blue Hyundai. Police chased it east on Army Navy Drive. The Hyundai almost collided with a car at S. Hayes. It appears both PFPA & ACPD cut the chase near S. 12th and Army Navy.” [Dave Statter/X]

Fall of Saigon Remembered — “One of those local businessmen Vinh Nguyen, told his own harrowing story of his family’s flight from Vietnam in April 1974 when he was just 15 years old and the long circuitous path that led to their migration to one of four U.S. refugee camps in the U.S. and eventually to the D.C. area where they opened a small grocery business in what was known at the time in Arlington as a Little Saigon neighborhood of near present day Clarendon but soon migrated, with his family’s being one of the first, to the present day Eden Center.” [FCNP]

End of Line for D.C. Streetcar — “After less than a decade of operation, the D.C. Streetcar is set to be phased out and replaced by an electric bus that Mayor Muriel E. Obituary

Tom Beers of Arlington, Va., died on May 20 after succumbing to complications related to metastatic kidney cancer. He was 74.

Tom will be remembered by many, but especially his life partner of 33 years, The Honorable Todd M. Harper, and his sister, Mary Anne Beers of Andover, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A 27-year-old Arlington man has been accused of assaulting a kid, threatening him and two other kids with a gun, and then trying to disarm an officer while getting arrested.

The alleged drunken incident happened Saturday afternoon near the Barcroft Apartments along Columbia Pike.

Fire in Arlington Mill — “Units responded to and quickly extinguished a fire in an apartment on the 5100 block of 8th Rd S. No injuries to firefighters or occupants. Fire Marshal will be investigating the cause.” [ACFD/X]

Robbery Near Columbia Pike — “The male victim was outside in the 900 block of S. Dinwiddie Street when 4-5 male suspects approached him, physically assaulted him and stole and undisclosed amount of cash. One of the suspects struck the victim with a bottle, causing a laceration. Alexandria Bans Gas Blowers — “Alexandria City Council unanimously approved an ordinance Saturday (May 17) banning gas-powered leaf blowers, making Alexandria the first jurisdiction in Virginia to enact such a prohibition. A man was found dead today along the Custis Trail in Arlington, prompting a police investigation.

The man’s body was found shortly after 11 a.m. near the trail and the intersection of N. Kensington Street and Fairfax Drive, according to an Arlington County police spokeswoman. That’s just east of Westover Park.
