At long last, McDonald’s is back in business on Langston Blvd — now with a second drive-thru lane but no Ronald McDonald statue.

Nearly a year after closing for a full rebuild, the modernized fast food restaurant at 4834 Langston Blvd officially reopened Thursday.

A Maryland man is facing attempted murder charges after reportedly showing up to the Arlington home of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director Russ Vought while armed.

Colin Demarco, 26, was taken into custody Jan. 22, five months after the Aug. 10 incident.

A hardware store off of Langston Blvd has been burglarized for the second time in the space of two weeks.

Police officers were dispatched to Bill’s Ace Hardware (2213 N. Buchanan Street) just after 7 a.m. yesterday (Wednesday) after an employee found that the glass on the front door was broken, according to scanner traffic.

An expanding French-inspired cafe chain appears to have set its sights on a new location in Ballston.

Signage for New York-based Maman now covers the windows at 4121 Wilson Blvd in the Ballston Exchange. This is the former home of Greenheart Juice Shop, which closed in October, and Philz Coffee, which closed in December 2022.

A discount grocery store coming to Falls Church plans to mark its grand opening next week with money-saving festivities.

Grocery Outlet Bargain Market intends to open its doors at 500 S. Washington Street at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, offering gift cards worth varying amounts to the first 100 customers. The top prize is $500.

An Arlington man is headed to Super Bowl LX with his hearing dog this weekend after being named the Pittsburgh Steelers’ “Fan of the Year.”

The team chose Hayden Shock, a 33-year-old employee of the General Services Administration, as its top fan last fall. Shock, who has followed his Air Force father’s fandom since he was around six years old, will be joined at this weekend’s Super Bowl by his dad, as well as Abby, his service dog.

Fear not, foodies: two local restaurant weeks will stick around for a little while longer following some of the worst winter weather in years.

Many participating locations in both the Metropolitan Washington Winter Restaurant Week and the Falls Church Restaurant Week have extended their deals through Sunday, Feb. 8, on account of below-freezing temperatures and lingering snow and ice.


Events

The Garage Racing National Championships are returning to Crystal City for the 12th year this February.

The unconventional bike racing event, which takes place in the garage under 201 12th Street S., is happening on Feb. 21.

A coalition of progressive prosecutors including Arlington’s commonwealth’s attorney is promising to share strategies and pursue accountability for any illegal actions by federal agents.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti — alongside Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano and prosecutors from Minneapolis, Philadelphia and other jurisdictions — announced the Fight Against Federal Overreach (FAFO) project yesterday (Wednesday). The initiative aims to “rein in unlawful conduct” amid a growing presence of federal immigration and law enforcement in communities across the country.

The Arlington County Police Department is investigating after a person was found dead at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City today (Tuesday).

Police were dispatched to 1100 S. Hayes Street for a report of a cardiac arrest shortly before noon, ACPD spokesperson Ashley Savage told ARLnow. Mall security reported “an obviously deceased person” in a third-floor storage room, according to scanner traffic.

The Bob & Edith’s Diner location on Langston Blvd has closed for good, the business has confirmed.

The local 24-hour diner chain, ranked the No. 2 best breakfast spot in the county in an ARLnow Reader’s Choice poll, announced yesterday (Monday) that its location at 5050 Langston Blvd had permanently closed.
