A Maryland man has been arrested and charged after apparently live-streaming himself discreetly touching a woman’s hair on a Metro train in Arlington.

Bryan Betancur, 28, was taken into custody yesterday (Monday) following an incident that took place around 10:09 p.m. on Sunday on a Silver Line train servicing the Clarendon Metro station, Metro Transit Police said.


After a year and a half of delays, a Clarendon nightlife spot with an upscale approach to dining and cocktails is targeting next month to finally open its doors.

Cielo submitted a liquor license application late last month and intends to open at 1137 N. Highland Street in mid-April, owner Michael Sina told ARLnow.

Some friendly carb competition appears to be coming to Ballston as a second bagel spot has announced plans to open on Glebe Road.

Bagel Uprising, based in Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood, plans to open its second location at 901 N. Glebe Road in May, co-founder Chad Breckinridge told ARLnow. That’s just half a mile from D.C.-based bagel chain Call Your Mother’s planned location at 4000 Wilson Blvd.


A fast-casual spot in Crystal City has permanently shut its doors after a decade in business.

Signage appeared last week on the door of the Sweetgreen at 2022 Crystal Drive, announcing the closure. The salad purveyor had occupied the location since February 2016.


Yorktown High School graduate Quentin Powers is appearing on “Jeopardy!” tomorrow (Tuesday) following his return from U.S. Peace Corps service abroad.

Powers, 25, will be one of three contestants on the episode airing at 7:30 p.m. on WJLA-TV. The 2018 Yorktown graduate said he auditioned for the game show while serving in the Peace Corps in East Timor, an island nation located in southeast Asia.


Signature Theatre earned more Helen Hayes Award nominations than any other theater company in the Washington region this year.

The Shirlington-based theater received 28 nominations across five productions, leading all 38 theaters recognized by Theatre Washington for the 42nd annual Helen Hayes Awards, announced last Monday (Feb. 23). Its most-nominated production was “The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson Musical” with eight nominations, followed by “Play On!” with seven and “Fiddler on the Roof” with six.

Freddie’s Beach Bar, the long-running LGBTQ+ bar on Crystal City’s 23rd Street S. restaurant row, is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a party this Sunday.
