For the combination of a stellar career coupled with significant community involvement, Cummings on Tuesday (Nov. 19) was presented with the 2024 William Winston Award.
What already was a standout championship football season for the Washington-Liberty Generals got better with the high-school team’s latest victory.
By defeating the No. 3 seed Langley Saxons, 20-14, Friday night (Nov. 22), the host, second seed and undefeated Generals (12-0) will play in a region-tournament championship playoff game for the first time since 1975.

The Hall of Fame Class of 2024 for the Virginia Baseball Coaches Association includes former Arlington coach Del Norwood.
The late Norwood, a native of Maine, came to Virginia after a professional career as a player and manager. In nearly 30 seasons (1959-89) at Washington-Lee High School, now named Washington-Liberty, Norwood’s teams won 19 district and 14 regional titles with an overall record of 384-180.
The Washington Post has published its latest assessment of Arlington’s dining landscape, including eight restaurants it considers to be among the best in the county.
The Post describes a dynamic restaurant scene that “ebbs and flows like the rest of the Washington region, depending on who’s dishing up something new and who’s willing to stretch their gustatory comfort zone.”
