News

Falls Church has returned to its No. 1 spot on the U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings of the nation’s healthiest communities, and Arlington remains in the top 25.

The rankings, released today (Tuesday), gave Falls Church an overall score of 100 out of 100, particularly recognizing its high quality education, healthy populace, strong economy and good nutrition and infrastructure. Arlington County, meanwhile, received a score of 86.07, placing it at No. 19 on the list.

A forthcoming restaurant and nightclub in Clarendon is seeking to bring a more refined approach to cocktails and diner food.

Industry veteran Michael Sina is the man behind Cielo Restaurant, which is expected to open later this year as an upscale diner in the daytime and a nightlife destination after dark.

Falls Church may be known as the Little City but soon there will be nothing diminutive about its grocery options.

Three different grocery chains are set to join Falls Church’s existing selection of supermarkets in the coming months and years.


Events

With free entertainment, family friendly attractions and food eating championships galore, the Arlington County Fair is returning next week.

New this year at the fair — which opens on Wednesday, Aug. 14 and runs through Sunday, Aug. 18. — is an additional eating competition. A burrito eating contest hosted by Los Chamacos will take place at 12:50 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, immediately after the Troy’s Italian Kitchen pizza eating contest and before the pie eating competition.


Around Town

An otherwise unassuming courtyard in Ballston has taken on a new life thanks to a Turkish coffee cart and the vision of a local business owner and creative.

Isa Seyran‘s “Ballstonian: Urban Oasis” introduces rich red pillows, intricate Turkish carpets, tables, cushions, stools and a red coffee cart — which has called Ballston home for about a year now — to the courtyard near 4075 Wilson Blvd. The space is located between outdoor seating areas for Poppyseed Rye and the now-closed Rustico.


News

Three days after three men carjacked a rental car off the lot in the Crystal City area, three men stole two more cars from a nearby lot.

The incident, classified as a robbery, happened around 5:15 p.m. Sunday on the 2700 block of Richmond Highway, which is home to an Enterprise rental lot. One of the men was armed, police said.

Rent Remains High — “The median apartment-rental cost in Arlington grew at seven times the national rate month-over-month in July, and stands near the very top among the nation’s 100 largest urban areas.
