The county jail is partnering with a reproductive nonprofit to provide pregnant inmates with maternal support and training.
The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office announced a partnership with the Richmond-based organization, Birth in Color, to provide pregnant people in custody with birthing support while training other inmates to become community-based birthing coaches or doulas.
PathForward, a local nonprofit that serves the homeless, will gather Arlington residents, donors and supporters to celebrate and fundraise for its mobile medical outreach program next week.
The “No Place Like Home” celebration will take place on Thursday, April 11 at the Army Navy Country Club (1700 Army Navy Drive) near Arlington Ridge from 6:30-9 p.m. It is set to be hosted by local media personality Tommy McFly and will feature a live auction.

Twin bills passed in February with overwhelming bipartisan majorities in the Virginia General Assembly, HB 264 and SB 157, were signed by Gov. Glenn Youngkin on Tuesday, April 2. The legislation will become law on July 1, 2024.

Arlington’s state legislators are calling on school officials to provide more labor protections for workers building the multimillion-dollar Arlington Career Center.
Sens. Adam Ebbin and Barbara Favola, along with Delegates Patrick Hope, Alfonso Lopez and Adele McClure, sent a letter to the Arlington School Board last month requesting a prevailing wage requirement. This would require workers to receive wages comparable to market rates when constructing the roughly $180 million project at 816 S. Walter Reed Drive.

Kenneth Lackey, 71, Arlington, VA, passed away on March 31, 2024, due to complications from Parkinson’s and a stroke.
Ken was a beloved husband, father, cousin and friend. He will be remembered for his absolute pride in his children, his warmth and kindness, his enthusiasm for sports, his knowledge of history, his love of a true Maryland Crab Cake and (almost) all things Old Bay. The strength and resilience he showed fighting Parkinson’s for 12 years was inspiring to everyone.
Amid a continued elevated number of vehicle thefts, compared to pre-pandemic levels, Arlington County police are giving away free anti-theft devices.
A pair of upcoming giveaway events will take place on Wednesday, April 17 and Tuesday, April 23 in church parking lots. Police will distribute one steering wheel lock to each vehicle owner who lives in Arlington and shows up to the event, while supplies last.
