Five arterial streets north of Route 50 could see their speed limits drop from 30 to 25 mph.
This weekend, the Arlington County Board is set to authorize public hearings to lower speed limits along these roads, which have “high volumes of pedestrian crossings and higher density land development,” a county report says.
Home Buying Blues — “Arlington, Virginia, is one of the most competitive housing markets in the country. And one of the most expensive. Even house hunters with a comfortable home-buying budget who are looking in Arlington are finding it is not easy to buy there. In January, active inventory, or the number of homes for sale in Arlington County, represented just a 0.74-month’s supply, one of the tightest markets anywhere in the country.” [WTOP]
APS Teacher of the Year — “Danielle Day of Washington-Liberty High School has been named Arlington Public Schools’ teacher of the year. Day is a special-education teacher, the lead teacher of the Secondary Program for Students with Autism and the Special Education Department co-chair at Washington-Liberty. Question: How has the Arlington single-family home market performed in the first half of 2026?
Answer: Arlington’s single-family detached (SFD) market got busier and more competitive in the first half of 2026, yet prices increased at their slowest pace since 2023.
More Competition, Modest Appreciation (Resale Market)
Note: this data is for resales of single-family detached (SFD) homes; I have a separate analysis of the new construction market further down.
Dig Deeper: Performance Varied by Size, Price Point
The appreciation gap between the average price (3.5%) and median price (1.9%) matters. The average is more sensitive to expensive sales. In 2026, 15.7% of closed resales sold for $2M or more, up from 12.7% in 2025. At the other end of the market, only 21.7% sold below $1M, down from 24.4%. That shift toward higher-priced homes helped lift the average faster than the median.
Average and median prices are useful, but neither tells us whether gains were shared evenly across the market. To test that, I divided the closed resale market into four sold-price quartiles for each year. Each quartile represents one-fourth of that year’s sales, from the least expensive 25% to the most expensive 25%. (more…)

Greenheart Juice Shop is now open in Courthouse.
The shop held a grand opening Saturday for its new location in the former Rāko Coffee space at 2016 Wilson Blvd. It is the second Greenheart location in Arlington after an outpost opened in Ballston last year.
Join DC Road Runners and Potomac Valley Track Club for our annual Family Night at the Track and Meet of Miles. The event is open to runners of all ages and paces as well as nonmembers.
This event hosts 400 meter and 800 meter races for kids ages 1-8, as well as multiple 1-mile heats for participants of all ages. There is also a 3K race that is open to participants of all ages.
This weekend the Arlington County Police Department is reminding motorists of the dangers of drunk driving.
The police department will host “Don’t Press Your Luck,” an anti-drunk-driving event that will highlight the impacts of alcohol when behind the wheel, this Saturday from 8-10 p.m. at the intersection of N. Irving Street at Wilson Blvd.
A wild incident involving a theft suspect in Pentagon City over the weekend was caught on camera.
It happened around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, a block away from the Pentagon Centre shopping center. Police say a 31-year-old man stole items from a nearby store and then tried to fight an officer who tried to take him into custody.

(Updated 3/14) A BurgerFi is opening in Rosslyn.
The Florida-based burger chain plans to hold a grand opening later this month, with free drinks and fries deals, for its new location at 1735 N. Lynn Street. It will be the franchise’s first foray into Arlington.
Arlington-based Axios HQ released a report today (Monday) that it says should be a reality check for company leaders.
“What we see every year — this year is no different — is there’s a lot more misalignment happening than a lot of leaders are aware of,” Chief Operating Officer Jordan Zaslav tells ARLnow.
