For the past few weeks, ARLnow has been experimenting with an automated email newsletter that’s written almost entirely by AI.
The “ARLnow AM” newsletter sends at 8 a.m. each weekday morning and summarizes that day’s Morning Notes and the past day’s local news articles.
The fields at Washington-Liberty High School have new temporary toilets for baseball players, softball players and spectators.
These are not run-of-the-mill port-a-johns, either. The facilities, developed by D.C.-area startup Throne, give users the royal treatment with running water for flushing and hand-washing. Users simply text a phone number to gain entry and provide a cleanliness rating via text after they use it.

Arlington’s Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) business community will come together for Brunch and Business: Power in Unity on Monday, May 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City, 2799 Richmond Hwy. in Arlington.
Hosted by Arlington Economic Development’s BizLaunch team, the event brings AANHPI entrepreneurs, small business advocates and community leaders together for conversation, connection and shared learning. Guided by the theme Power in Unity, the gathering highlights how diverse cultures, perspectives and experiences strengthen Arlington’s small business ecosystem.
Attendees will hear from four local business owners during a moderated panel discussion, engage in meaningful dialogue and expand their professional networks. The event is designed to foster collaboration, celebrate AANHPI leadership and support continued growth across Arlington’s business community.

Conte’s Bike Shop could open later this month in Pentagon City, perhaps making it the first business to open at Amazon’s new HQ2.
The nearly seven-decade-old, Virginia-based bike shop is planning to open its newest location inside of the still-under-construction office complex at 1350 S. Eads Street late this month or in early May, manager of strategy and operations George Lee told ARLnow. It will be situated adjacent to Good Company Doughnuts, which is set to start serving later in the summer.

On Saturday, it is expected that the Arlington County Board will approve a $1.6 million contract to construct the Shirlington Road Pedestrian Bridge. The 15-foot-wide prefabricated steel bridge will run the length of Four Mile Run and parallel to the road with the purpose of providing safer bicycle and pedestrian access.
