Crime Report: Kids Whack Mom’s Attacker with Bat

(Updated at 2:30 p.m. on 12/23/21) When a verbal argument led to a malicious physical attack in the Nauck neighborhood Tuesday evening, according to police, the victim’s kids stepped in and began attacking the alleged attacker.

The incident took place just past 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, on the 2400 block of S. Lowell Street. Two neighbors who “have a long, combative history,” got into a verbal argument “that escalated” when one of them pulled out a baseball bat, Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

Police Investigate Attempted Abduction of Jogger in Fairlington

Police say a 30-year-old female jogger was running on the 3400 block of S. Utah Street at approximately 6:00 a.m. when a white, four-door sedan — driven by a white male in his 40s with brown hair and a goatee — approached her.

The man allegedly asked the victim for directions before he grabbed her and attempted to pull her into his car. She was able to break free and run home to call police.

Man Convicted of Assault on Roommate Who Drew a Penis on His Face

[Redacted] Watson, 32, was found guilty this week of beating up his roommate after the roommate drew a penis on his face while he slept. An Arlington County Circuit Court judge sentenced Watson to a $1,250 fine and restitution on the misdemeanor charge, but no additional jail time.

During trial, the jury was told that Watson and his two roommates were out drinking in Clarendon on a Friday night last March. When they returned to their Lyon Village home, Watson fell asleep on the couch with his shoes on, prompting the victim decided to prank him by drawing a penis on his face with a black dry erase marker, according to Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Ben Inman, who prosecuted the case.

Crime Report: Breakup Turns Violent

The incident happened early Saturday morning on the 3000 block of Columbia Pike. Police say the man, who is in his 20s, repeatedly kicked the victim in the head, knocking her unconscious. She sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Arlington’s Crime Rate Increased in 2013

The crime rate in 2013 increased 3.06 percent, according to a press release issued this afternoon. An uptick in aggravated assaults, robberies and larcenies accounted for the overall crime rate jump.

There were 4,209 Part I offenses — rapes, burglaries, robberies aggravated assaults and larcenies — in 2013, up from 4,084 in 2012. Aggravated assaults increased 33 percent from 2012, police said, due in part to the increased frequency of domestic strangulation reports. The increase coincided with a new Virginia law, passed in 2012, that made strangulation a Part I offense.

Crime Report: Man Crashes into Boulders, Assaults Cops

An 18-year-old Arlington resident was arrested early Tuesday morning after police say he drunkenly ran his car into two small “boulders” at Henry Clay Park, then assaulted two police officers as he was being taken him into custody.

Young Republicans Holding Forum on Pot Sentencing

As more states and localities like D.C. decriminalize or even legalize pot possession, a national dialogue has emerged over lengthy prison sentences for nonviolent marijuana offenders. The AFCYRs are bringing that discussion to Arlington.

“There is an ongoing national discussion about marijuana sentencing reform, and I want to make sure the Republicans are leading the charge,” AFCYR Chairman Matthew Hurtt said in a media advisory. “It’s an issue that can unite members of our community, regardless of party, race or gender, and we look forward to hearing from those actively engaged in this topic.”

Crime Report: Man Beaten, Robbed After Meeting Woman Online

A man was beaten and robbed after inviting a woman he had met online to his apartment.

According to this week’s Arlington County crime report, the tattooed woman and an accomplice assaulted the 31-year-old victim at his apartment in the Douglas Park neighborhood near Randolph Elementary School.
