Active Duty Registration has officially begun for the Marine Corps Marathon.
The special discount and early registration applies to all active duty and reserve service members. Military personnel from all branches of the armed forces will receive a 15 percent discount off the regular $92 entrance fee.
Military personnel have until March 6 to take advantage of the discount. Registration opens to the general public on March 7.
The Marine Corps Marathon, which takes place on October 28, is the fourth largest marathon in the United States and the ninth largest in the world. The race starts and ends in Arlington.
If you’re looking to give the gift of fitness and transportation this holiday season, Capital Bikeshare may have the answer. It’s offering gift certificates for memberships at discounted rates until Christmas.
The annual membership is going for $65, down from $75, and the 30-day membership can be picked up for $20 instead of $25.
Bikeshare set up several new stations in Arlington last month, and has plans for more expansion throughout the county in the spring.

Changes on Tap at Harry’s in Clarendon — Harry’s Tap Room (2800 Clarendon Blvd) is getting a new name and some new food. Renovations at the Clarendon restaurant are expected to begin later this month. When it reopens three weeks later, it will be re-branded as “Market Tavern” and will have a revised food focus. Discount on Signature Theater Tickets — Shirlington’s award-winning Signature Theater is offering 15 percent off tickets at the Signature box office when theater-goers present their library card. Housing for the Homeless — This week volunteers canvased the streets of Arlington in an effort to identify the 100 most vulnerable homeless individuals in the county. Part of the 100 Homes campaign, the results of the survey will be used to determine which chronically homeless persons will be moved to permanent housing. Taste of Arlington tickets are being offered at a discount this week.
Tickets for Arlington’s biggest food festival are normally $20 in advance and $25 at the gate, but for the next 10 days they’re being sold for $15 through local deal-of-the-day web site What’s the Deal.
The ever-popular annual event will held from noon to 5:00 p.m. on May 22.
Now in its 24th year, Taste of Arlington will be held from noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 22. Admission is free but tickets are required to sample the food and drinks.
