A new product to help people track down lost belongings made its debut in Arlington this week.

Falls Church accountant Dave Doctor is the entrepreneur behind LostAF — a brand of lost-and-found stickers with unique QR codes to help people contact those who have lost things.

A local restaurant has plans to serve free breakfast tacos in Rosslyn next week for National Taco Day.

District Taco says it will park its original taco truck at the intersection of Wilson Blvd and N. Lynn Street at 8 a.m. next Friday, Oct. 4. The Arlington-founded company will serve one taco per customer while supplies last — most likely until 10 a.m., the restaurant predicts.

Mr Wash is offering free car washes tomorrow — Thursday, Aug. 15 — in honor of back-to-school season.

All 11 Mr Wash locations in Northern Virginia, Maryland and Delaware — including the Arlington spots at 4148 S. Four Mile Run Drive and 101 N. Glebe Road — are participating in the promotion. To claim the offer, customers don’t need to do anything other than visit a Mr Wash, the company said.

A dog-friendly block party originally scheduled for this Sunday has been pushed back to the end of September.

With temperatures on Sunday at one point expected to reach around 90 degrees — the forecast now shows a high in the mid-80s and scattered showers — the Summer Bark Bash in Green Valley has been rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 29 “for the safety and comfort of all our dogs and their humans.”

School supplies and financial donations can be exchanged for free chicken at all Nando’s Peri-Peri locations tomorrow (Thursday) to celebrate Mandela Day.

The South African fast casual chain will serve a free flame-grilled chicken leg or breast at any spice level to customers who donate at least one school supply item or make a financial donation between 4-7 p.m.

Amid a continued elevated number of vehicle thefts, compared to pre-pandemic levels, Arlington County police are giving away free anti-theft devices.

A pair of upcoming giveaway events will take place on Wednesday, April 17 and Tuesday, April 23 in church parking lots. Police will distribute one steering wheel lock to each vehicle owner who lives in Arlington and shows up to the event, while supplies last.

The plaza in front of George Mason University’s Virginia Square campus has a refreshed look and a fresh set of events for spring.

Mason Square Plaza was redesigned to “better support a range of activities and increase engagement.” The open space has an assortment of new amenities including an art cart, ping pong tables, mini golf, chess, and a few other activities.

Colada Shop is set to open its first Arlington location on Monday, and the first 100 visitors will receive a free “Colada Clarendon” tote bag.

The Sterling-based Cuban cafe is moving into a 2,200-square-foot space next to Tatte and Seamore’s, at 2811 Clarendon Blvd.


Schools

(Updated at 3:20 p.m.) Starting this month, Arlington students can now get free Metrobus rides throughout Arlington.

This builds on a program in place since 2022 allowing students with iRide SmarTrip card to ride Arlington Transit (ART) buses for free. Students who live in Arlington and are enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade can obtain these cards from Commuter Stores in Arlington or, if they are APS students, through their schools.

(Updated at 3:25 p.m.) Cyclists and runners can snag some free safety gear in Arlington later this week.

This Wednesday through Friday, BikeArlington and WalkArlington volunteers will be handing out free bicycle lights and reflective vests from 4-6 p.m.

Salute the summer with free ice cream this evening at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in Shirlington.

The ice cream shop at 4150 Campbell Ave in the Village at Shirlington will offer free scoops, a limited number of “swag bags” and a sneak peek at new flavors tonight (Monday) from 7-11 p.m.
