The Arlington Chamber of Commerce saluted public safety responses to this winter’s deadly mid-air crash over the Potomac River at an event last week.

A special Excellence Award was bestowed on the Arlington County Police Department, Arlington County Fire Department, Arlington County Department of Public Safety Communications and Emergency Management and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority for their efforts at the scene of the crash.

Immigration officers say they have arrested an undocumented man previously convicted of killing a pedestrian with his car just south of Arlington.

Arlington County police believe there may be more victims in a serial indecent exposure case.

As previously reported, a man was alleged to have exposed himself to two women and two children in a pair of separate incidents on a Saturday afternoon late last month, in the Clarendon area and near Lacey Woods Park.

A 35-year-old man accused of exposing himself and masturbating near children has a lengthy list of recent arrests.

Police say Sami Kasawat committed the lewd act around 3 p.m. last Tuesday in the area of Oakland Park in Virginia Square. He fled the scene but was arrested the next day in Courthouse.

Eight shoplifting suspects were arrested in a Pentagon City operation as new police data shows Arlington retail crime is on the rise.

In a May 30 retail theft detail, the Arlington County Police Department arrested seven people on petit larceny charges and one person on a grand larceny charge. The arrests resulted in the recovery of more than $6,000 in stolen merchandise, police said in a press release.

Someone called in a bomb threat to an elementary school in Arlington today.

Police were dispatched to Jamestown Elementary School around 2:15 p.m. for a report of an anonymous threat received by phone. The person making the threat was described as a “younger male.”
