(Updated at 6:00 p.m.) Power is gradually being restored after a widespread outage in parts of North Arlington.
More than 9,800 Dominion customers were without power at the height of the outage this evening. The affected several neighborhoods, including Ballston, Virginia Square, Cherrydale, Donaldson Run and parts of Clarendon and Rosslyn. Arlington’s 911 center received numerous calls of tripped alarms and stuck elevators as a result..

(Updated at 1:15 p.m.) A lunchtime power outage hit parts of Pentagon City this afternoon.
Power went out at Pentagon City mall and at the Pentagon Centre shopping plaza, which houses Costco and a number of other retailers. The traffic lights at Army Navy Drive and S. Hayes Street, S. Hayes Street and 12th Street and S. Fern Street and 12th Street were also dark. Traffic is moving slowly through the area.
Traffic lights are dark and homes and businesses are without electricity in the Rosslyn and Courthouse area this evening.
As of 5:00 p.m., Dominion was reporting more than 1,200 customers without power in Arlington. Rhodeside Grill tells ARLnow.com that they’re among the businesses without power in the area.
A power outage affected about 1,350 Dominion customers along Lee Highway this morning.
The outage created some dangerous conditions where traffic lights were dark or malfunctioning along Lee Highway. Police had to direct traffic at the intersection of Lee Highway and Spout Run.
(Updated at 2:25 p.m.) Power has been restored after a widespread outage in Arlington, Dominion says.
Power was restored just after 1:50 p.m., according to Dominion spokeswoman Le-Ha Anderson. She said the outage, which lasted 38 minutes, was caused by a malfunctioning piece of equipment at the company’s Clarendon power substation.
Update at 11:35 a.m. — All power has been restored.
Update at 11:20 a.m. — Power has been partially restored. Just over 500 Dominion customers remain in the dark.
Update at 1:55 p.m. — Dominion spokeswoman Le-Ha Anderson says: “Approximately 5,000 customers lost power this afternoon for about 30 minutes. We are still investigating the root cause of the outage, but in the meantime, were able to reroute the flow of electricity to get customers restored quickly and safely.”
A major power outage has been reported along the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor.

Power Outage in North Arlington — Residents who live along Lee Highway between North Veitch Street and Military Road lost power for a period of time Saturday morning. About 1,360 Dominion customers were affected. The lights were back on by 11:00 a.m.
The 76-minute power outage forced restaurants like Fireworks in Courthouse to close for the night, while it drove business to other establishments where the lights stayed on, like Adams Corner and Spider Kelly’s.
Dominion spokesperson Le-Ha Anderson said 9,500 customers were affected by the outage, which occurred when a piece of equipment failed at the company’s substation at 3245 Wilson Boulevard.
We’re hearing initial reports of a power outage in Shirlington. A number of businesses in the Village at Shirlington are affected.
No word on how wide-spread the outage is or when power might come back on.
