A brief power outage turned off the lights at homes, businesses and even the Virginia Dept. of Motor Vehicles office in Virginia Square this afternoon.
The outage was reported prior to 2:30 p.m. A map from Dominion Power said more than 2,600 customers were without power across a large swath of North Arlington, from the far northern reaches of Arlington County to part of the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor.
A portion of the Crystal City neighborhood is without power this morning, leading to dark traffic signals and dark office buildings.
As of 9 a.m., more than 1,300 Dominion customers were without electricity, all south of 23rd Street S., according to the power company’s website. However, traffic signals were reported dark as far north as 20th Street S. and S. Eads Street.
Ice Cream Jubilee has opened its new location in Ballston Quarter’s food hall.
The ice cream store, on the mall’s concourse level, is serving 16 unique flavors of ice cream, ranging from Thai Iced Tea to Honey Lemon Lavender to Banana Bourbon Caramel.
Update at 3 p.m. — Power has been restored to Dominion customers in western Arlington, though more than 1,500 remain without power in the Bailey’s Crossroads area of Fairfax County.

Closures on a number of major commuter routes snarled traffic in parts of Arlington Monday morning.
Most recently — around 9:15 a.m. — a two-vehicle crash with three reported injuries happened on N. Glebe Road at Cathedral Lane, blocking northbound traffic at Route 50.
Update at 1:25 p.m. — Power was restored to the entire neighborhood as of 1 p.m., according to Dominion spokesman Charles Penn. The cause of the outage, he said, was an issue with an underground switch. The extended outage prompted many Ballston restaurants to remain closed during lunchtime.
Earlier: Numerous office buildings, apartment and condo towers, and traffic signals are in the dark this morning due to a power outage in Ballston.
More than 700 Dominion customers are without power in Arlington and the City of Falls Church this morning due to a possibly wind-related outage.
The outage extends from an area near the East Falls Church Metro station to the E. Broad Street commercial corridor of Falls Church and other parts of the city.
Several dozen Dominion customers are currently without power in the Clarendon area.
The traffic signals at several intersections are dark, according to scanner traffic. A number of businesses, including the Trader Joe’s store and Pete’s Apizza, are without electricity, according to a passerby.
Students and staff at Wakefield High School are heading home early today, thanks to a power outage in the neighborhood.
Arlington Public Schools announced the dismissal around 12:30 today.
A widespread power outage has left hundreds in the dark around Wakefield High School and the Columbia Forest neighborhood south of Columbia Pike.
As of 10 p.m., Dominion was reporting 865 customers without power in Arlington County. Many more were without power along Columbia Pike before their electricity was restored.

Spanish restaurant SER (1110 N. Glebe Road) is closed today after storms led to a partial roof collapse and flooding inside the eatery last night (July 25).
SER aims to be back open this weekend, according to a Twitter statement from restaurant proprietor Javier Candon.
