Ballston Redevelopment Advancing — “Penzance is moving forward with plans to redevelop Ballston One, a 1980s-era Arlington office tower it recently acquired for cheap, with a new multifamily building… A preliminary site plan application filed Sept. 13 with Arlington County’s planning department indicates the project is advancing apace.” [Washington Business Journal]

Support for Microtransit Pilot — “The Arlington County government’s plan for a pilot ‘microtransit’ effort won support at a recent advisory-subcommittee meeting. But it also faced flak over where it will be conducted. ‘I’m just sort of flabbergasted,’ said Kent Keyser… after hearing that the pilot will take place in what he termed the ‘next to the wealthiest’ section of the county.” [Gazette Leader]

DSW May Leave Pentagon City — “Another local DSW space is being marketed to new tenants. Food Security Grants Announced — “The Arlington County Board announced the allocation of $150,000 in one-time food security mini-grants to community organizations. These organizations provide support for key initiatives within the County’s Food Security Strategic Plan, which was adopted in October 2022.” [Arlington County]

Funding Drop for Doorways — “Organizations that support survivors of domestic violence and child abuse across the country are paring back resources — or preparing to shut down shelters — due to a dramatic drop in federal funds… this year’s cut has translated into a decrease of $200,000 — or 11 percent — for Doorways, Arlington’s sole provider of crisis services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.” [Washington Post]

Bikeshare Ridership is Up — “While the Washington region begins to cool, Capital Bikeshare (CaBi) ridership remains hot. CaBi broke the all-time monthly ridership record in August with 614,639 rides. This is a 31.1% increase in system use from August 2023 and marks the fourth consecutive month where CaBi has shattered its previous milestone for busiest month on record.” [Greater Greater Washington]

Home Prices Still Rising — “Sales prices of single-family homes in Arlington continued moving higher into the stratosphere in July, with the average sales price up nearly 13 percent from a year before. The average sales price of the 57 single-family properties that went to closing for the month stood at $1,575,170, according to figures reported Sept. 11 by Bright MLS.” [Gazette Leader]

‘Brick’ Basket on Carlin Springs Road — “A mystery neighbor in Arlington County is going to great lengths to get the county and drivers’ attention to pedestrian safety. Update on Ballston Shooting — From ACPD: “The victim and another male exited a vehicle and were walking towards a business when the four suspects approached, brandished firearms and demanded their property. The suspects then stole jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash. During the course of the incident, the suspects discharged several rounds striking the victim, and causing property damage to two businesses and a residence.” [ARLnow]

Strike Hurting Boeing — “Boeing said it would freeze hiring and delay pay increases for its salaried workforce as the jet maker grapples with financial fallout from a strike launched Friday by its largest union. The [Arlington-based] company announced the cost-saving measures in a memo to staff on Monday and said it would also cut back orders from suppliers for its 737, 767 and 777 jets. The memo said Boeing also was considering temporary furloughs for employees and executives.” [Wall Street Journal]

New Name for APAH — “Over the past 35 years, the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing has evolved to ensure that having a safe place to call home is available to those who need it most. ART Ridership Update — “While still nowhere near pre-pandemic levels, Arlington Transit (ART) ridership levels continue to rebound. Slightly more than 2.4 million trips on the local transit system were taken in the fiscal year ending June 30, up from 1.92 million the preceding year, according to figures from the county government presented at the Sept. 10 meeting of a government body. New Speed Camera in F.C. — “The City of Falls Church launched its inaugural School Zone Speed Safety Program [on Monday] with a new speed safety camera on the 800 block of West Broad Street (Rt. 7) within the designated school zone of Saint James Catholic School… Speed safety cameras are operational with the 20 MPH speed limit when the Saint James Catholic School Zone lights are flashing during school arrival and departure.” [City of Falls Church]

Foot Chase Along Langston Blvd — From Arlington County police Friday evening: “At approximately 4:10pm, ACPD apprehended a suspect at Langston Blvd & N. Adams St who fled from a stolen vehicle at N. Veitch St & Wilson Blvd. Prior to being taken into custody, the suspect fled in the area of the Custis & N. Barton St and discarded a black shirt and possibly a bag. I-395 Shirlington Detour — “Drivers headed to Shirlington will have to take a detour through YAlexandria… offering Arlingtonians a glimpse at life once Alexandria finally annexes Shirlington.
