A new spot for hookah and Turkish cuisine is coming to Columbia Pike.

Huqqa Lounge will be the tenant at 2330 Columbia Pike, owner Ahmet Yilidiz told ARLnow, filling the space vacated by Manoukian Brothers Oriental Rugs earlier this year.

Major improvements are in the plans for the McDonald’s at 4834 Langston Blvd.

The fast food restaurant intends to completely demolish the aging building, replacing it with a modernized restaurant next year “to serve our customers better,” area construction manager Michele Miller told ARLnow.

Plans to open a Crumbl Cookies location at the Lee Harrison Shopping Center have, well, crumbled.

The national cookie chain is no longer moving into 2439 N. Harrison Street off Langston Blvd, a leasing agent for the property manager told ARLnow. It would have filled the space formerly of an urgent care, which moved to a larger space in the shopping strip.

Atilla Kan, a D.C.-area restaurateur who dished out Mediterranean flavors for nearly 50 years, died June 13. He was 82.

A native of Turkey, Kan was noted locally as founder of The Perfect Pita, which he and his family established in 1994. What started as a single takeout spot led to 14 different locations in the region, as well as a wholesale business offering pita, hummus and other Mediterranean foods.

The second installment of Arlington’s only electronic music street festival will be held next month.

Ballroom on the Block, hosted by the Clarendon Ballroom, will bring local electronic DJs, food vendors and more to Clarendon on Saturday, July 27.

Pride Month will soon be coming to a close but a number of local events are still on the calendar, highlighted by the third-annual Arlington Pride Festival.

The Arlington Pride Drag Pageant will take place tonight (Friday), allowing local entertainers to compete for only the second-ever crown. Held at Clarendon Ballroom, doors will open at 7 p.m. The pageant is scheduled to wrap around 10 p.m., with a rooftop after party to follow.

Originally slated to run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, parts of the event would fall in the window of an Excessive Heat Watch.

Trader Joe’s once appeared to be coming to Crystal City. But that effort seems to have quietly come to an end.

A little over a year ago, a construction permit application filed for 2450 Crystal Drive explicitly said that the grocer was coming to the property. In March, a liquor license application confirmed the same.

A coffee shop with local roots is eyeing the Potomac Yard area in Arlington for its third storefront.

Kaldi’s Social House is moving in at 3639 S. Glebe Road, according to permits filed for the property. The restaurant will have 114 seats inside, plus 35 on the outside, the permits suggest.
