Another hot day is on tap, with outdoor Arlington parks and rec activities from noon until 8 p.m. cancelled again amid yet another Heat Advisory (another advisory has already been issued for Wednesday).

As long as the area is scorching, the National Weather Service recommends staying in air-conditioned spaces and drinking plenty of fluids. An iced coffee run meets these conditions, but with it being so hot for so long, maybe you’re looking for something more unique than your average cold coffee.

A coffee shop with local roots is eyeing the Potomac Yard area in Arlington for its third storefront.

Kaldi’s Social House is moving in at 3639 S. Glebe Road, according to permits filed for the property. The restaurant will have 114 seats inside, plus 35 on the outside, the permits suggest.

An office building right across from the Clarendon Metro station is finally filling some vacant retail bays.

The owner of the office tower at 3101 Wilson Blvd just announced three new retail tenants on the ground floor: bakery and cafe chain Paris  Baguette, nostalgic confectionary chain Kilwins, and wellness clinic chain Relive Health.

Good Company Doughnuts and Cafe is about to open another location, this time in D.C.

The Arlington-born, all-day cafe, also known as GoCoDough, has a new spot near the Waterfront Metro station in the Westerly apartment building at 1000 4th Street SW. The cafe is currently under construction, slated to open in early May, owners Charles Kachadoorian and Kate Murphy said.

For Five Coffee Roasters’ Rosslyn location was already bustling with activity just hours after opening its doors for the first time on Friday.

“I’m so excited!” customer Laura Durie exclaimed to a companion as she looked at the coffee shop’s menu. “Look, they have an omelet!”

The Rosslyn location of For Five Coffee Roasters is set to open in the next three weeks — and it will serve more than coffee and pastries.

The café at 1735 N. Lynn Street will be the company’s first to offer a bar with wine, beer and liquor, “making it the perfect after work destination or residential happy hour spot,” Vice President of Marketing Tracy Imhof said.

A Korea-based coffee chain quietly opened its first permanent U.S. outpost in the Ballston neighborhood last month, drawing long lines and rave reviews.

Gute Leute Coffee Bar, located at 800 N. Glebe Road next to Mussel Bar & Grille, held its soft opening on Saturday, Dec. 23.

(Updated at 4:05 p.m.) Like a phoenix rising from the ashes — or a Barnes & Noble returning to Georgetown — Panera Bread is making its triumphant return to Ballston.

The fast-casual bakery-cafe chain announced today that it is gearing up for a grand opening this Thursday (Dec. 21) near the Ballston Metro station, at the corner of N. Stuart Street and Fairfax Drive.

Maryland-based bakery and coffee retailer Roggenart Bistro & Café is set to make its Arlington debut in Ballston.

It is moving into the previous home of Republik Coffee Bar, at 4401 Wilson Blvd, next to restaurants Big Buns Damn Good Burgers and Nando’s PERi-PERi. Republik and its Tysons counterpart permanently closed earlier this year.

A Panera Bread appears to be moving into the old Cosi location in Ballston, according to online permit records.

The permit, filed with Arlington County, describes the work as “interior alterations for new tenant fitout for restaurant Panera Bread.”
