The restaurant and bakery Mah-Ze-Dahr has closed in Crystal City after three and a half years.

The New York City-based cafe, which opened in June 2021, shuttered at 1550 Crystal Drive last Thursday. It was the bakery’s last location in the D.C. area.

A local man has been arrested and accused of setting a series of small fires outside of restaurants along Crystal City’s 23rd Street restaurant row.

The Arlington County Fire Department announced the arrest Thursday afternoon, identifying the suspect as Timothy C. Pollock.

A study on turning Route 1 into a bike- and pedestrian-friendly “urban boulevard” through Crystal City has concluded, teeing up big-ticket changes in years to come.

Last night (Tuesday), the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) presented the Phase 2 findings of a study on plans to bring the commuter route — which is currently elevated between 20th Street S. and 12th Street S. — down to street level.

Long-time local gay bar Freddie’s Beach Bar suffered damage to its front doors after an intentionally-set fire early Thursday morning.

Freddie’s was among three neighboring businesses on Crystal City’s 23rd Street S. restaurant row that were damaged. The others were another long-time watering hole, Crystal City Sports Pub, as previously reported, and Irish pub McNamara’s.

More than 6,000 homes and businesses were without power Friday afternoon in the Pentagon City and Crystal City area after a major outage.

The outage started around 1 p.m. There were frequent police and fire dispatches to the area for traffic complaints, numerous elevators stuck with people inside, and a report of smoke and alarms in the Pentagon City mall food court.
