The process of licensing a dog in Arlington is less onerous than it used to be, but efforts are underway to streamline it further.

Until recent years, dog owners were required to come to the treasurer’s office in person to present the required rabies certificate and pay the fee. More recently, an online option was added, but it remains a two-step process.

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is unveiling new limited-edition beer cans this week following the end of a charity contest featuring local pets.

The AWLA’s Rescue Brew Contest, which involved pet owners competing for a chance to feature their furry friend on 32-ounce aluminum cans, raised $53,000 after over 1,000 people voted to decide four winners.

An Arlington woman originally from Albania is raising money through GoFundMe to bring a stray dog from her home country to the United States.

Silvi Pomeroy, a resident physician at George Washington University Hospital, met “Buddy” on a trip to show her husband Albania and visit family. Her aunt had been feeding Buddy for a couple weeks leading up to their visit, and he followed the family around on walks.

Snuggly mixed-breed dog Pickles McButterpants is looking for a new home and, thanks to a donation, his adoption fee is free.

The whimsically named dog is two years old and is described by the Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) as very affectionate, though he would prefer to be the only pet in the house.

A new charity fundraiser is calling for pet owners to submit pictures of their furry friends for a chance to be featured on limited-edition beer cans.

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is teaming up with The Board Room brewery in Lyon Park to host a pet photo competition. Through Monday, June 30, the Rescue Brew Pet Photo Contest will accept pictures in the categories of cats, dogs and other “small companions.”

Dogs in Rosslyn are sure to have a ball with some new play equipment that was placed in Gateway Park’s dog park over the weekend.

Volunteers from R-Dogs, the dog park’s nonprofit sponsor, installed new ramps and a platform for four-legged friends at 1300 Langston Blvd on Sunday, bringing their pets along for an inaugural play-date.
