An Arlington woman originally from Albania is raising money through GoFundMe to bring a stray dog from her home country to the United States.

Silvi Pomeroy, a resident physician at George Washington University Hospital, met “Buddy” on a trip to show her husband Albania and visit family. Her aunt had been feeding Buddy for a couple weeks leading up to their visit, and he followed the family around on walks.

Snuggly mixed-breed dog Pickles McButterpants is looking for a new home and, thanks to a donation, his adoption fee is free.

The whimsically named dog is two years old and is described by the Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) as very affectionate, though he would prefer to be the only pet in the house.

A new charity fundraiser is calling for pet owners to submit pictures of their furry friends for a chance to be featured on limited-edition beer cans.

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is teaming up with The Board Room brewery in Lyon Park to host a pet photo competition. Through Monday, June 30, the Rescue Brew Pet Photo Contest will accept pictures in the categories of cats, dogs and other “small companions.”

Dogs in Rosslyn are sure to have a ball with some new play equipment that was placed in Gateway Park’s dog park over the weekend.

Volunteers from R-Dogs, the dog park’s nonprofit sponsor, installed new ramps and a platform for four-legged friends at 1300 Langston Blvd on Sunday, bringing their pets along for an inaugural play-date.

As plenty of former federal workers are likely feeling down, a local animal rescue organization wants to help lift some spirits.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue — a regional nonprofit based along Langston Blvd in Arlington’s Yorktown neighborhood — is asking out-of-work federal employees to consider fostering a cat or dog.

Animal-loving filmmakers have tales to tell at a pair of upcoming dog- and cat-themed film festivals on Columbia Pike.

The 2025 New York Cat & Dog Film Festivals are coming to the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse at 2903 Columbia Pike. It’s a two-night event on Tuesday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 7 “celebrating the love, charm, and companionship of our feline and canine friends.”

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is inviting the community to its equivalent of a baby shower this weekend.

“Spring is baby season,” the organization said in announcing a “We’re Expecting!” community event on Saturday, which gives the public a chance to “learn about the incredible work that goes into caring for kittens and baby wildlife at our shelter.”

Fresh, hibachi-style meals are coming to Bronson Bierhall’s patio this weekend. One caveat: the meals are for dogs.

The Ballston bar and patio at 4100 Fairfax Drive is hosting a live hibachi event for dogs at 2 p.m. this Saturday, March 1, on its outdoor patio. A grill and dog-friendly ingredients will be supplied by Bogey’s Mix, a new dog food company in Northern Virginia.
