Firefighters are still on scene of a house fire that broke out around 6:15 p.m., amid a storm.

A neighbor called to report that fire was coming from the roof of a house on the 2300 block of N. Albemarle Street, in the Old Dominion neighborhood near N. Glebe Road. No one was believed to be home at the time, according to scanner traffic.

A man is fighting for his life after being severely burned in an under-construction office building in Crystal City.

It happened around 2:15 p.m. at 2011 Crystal Drive, which is being renovated. Initial reports suggest that there was a “flash fire” of some kind on a basement level of the building, critically injuring a construction worker in his 20s and setting off the sprinkler system.

The Arlington Chamber of Commerce saluted public safety responses to this winter’s deadly mid-air crash over the Potomac River at an event last week.

A special Excellence Award was bestowed on the Arlington County Police Department, Arlington County Fire Department, Arlington County Department of Public Safety Communications and Emergency Management and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority for their efforts at the scene of the crash.

Firefighters battled a house fire in the Arlingwood neighborhood near Chain Bridge this morning.

Fire departments from Arlington, Fairfax County and other jurisdictions responded to a report of “a large fire in the garage” on N. Richmond Street around 9 a.m., according to scanner traffic. The blaze quickly spread to the attic and other parts of the structure.

Street upgrades in Bluemont, Claremont and Shirlington, plus a loan for renovating 73 affordable housing units, are scheduled for County Board consideration this weekend.

Board members have a total 52 items on their consent agenda this month, but no regular hearing items. All items pulled for further consideration will be heard at the Board’s recessed meeting, set for Wednesday, June 18.

Trains are stopped in the area of the Ballston station while firefighters and Metro personnel investigate a report of smoke in a tunnel.

“Trains are not running between Ballston and East Falls Church because of a report smoke outside Ballston,” Metro said on social media around 2:20 p.m. “While we work to arrange shuttle buses… Customers may use the 2A bus route between Ballston, East Falls Church and Dunn Loring.”

A smoky apartment fire sparked by an e-scooter could have been much worse if not for a sprinkler system.

The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. on the first floor of The Jordan, a four-story apartment building at 801 N. Wakefield Street, in the Bluemont neighborhood near Ballston. Arriving firefighters reported encountering smoke, an electrical fire, and residents evacuating the building.

A Ballston-area medic unit temporarily went out of service last Friday due to ongoing staffing problems at the Arlington County Fire Department.

The unit at Station 2 ceased operations during the day shift to avoid holding firefighters on mandatory, unscheduled overtime, ACFD spokesperson Capt. Jamie Jill told ARLnow.

The announcement that came across Arlington airwaves around 3:30 p.m. started like dispatches for significant incidents, with three long beeps. But unlike others, the message that followed was a moving tribute to the life of firefighter Lloyd Edwards.
