A colorful new look and refreshments have arrived for the summer on The Clarendon Ballroom’s rooftop.

The three-level bar and events venue recently renovated its rooftop — renamed “The Deck” — with latticework, more seating and summery, Mediterranean-inspired decor and food. It is the first pop-up theme in what the Ballroom team hopes to make a rotating series throughout the year.


A new tavern with Appalachian charm and an Italian American-inspired menu will soon open for business in Clarendon.

Nettie’s Tavern, opening Monday, Aug. 11 in part of the former Whitlow’s space, is named after a beloved family friend of Arlington restaurateur Reese Gardner. The Appalachia native met Nettie, who he identified only by her first name, six years ago in a bar near Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

A Nashville-style burger and fried chicken chain plans to open a new location in Ashton Heights in about a month.

D.C.-area fast food joint “Nash & Smashed” is preparing to open at 310 N. Glebe Road, where Boost Mobile closed in the Buckingham Center. The new restaurant serves up traditional fried chicken, chicken sandwiches and smash burgers.


An Arlington entrepreneur and a father-daughter duo have begun hosting events for young innovators at George Mason University’s new Fuse building.

Oasis Hill” — a project by Shy Pahlevani, founder of the local startups LiveSafe and HUNGRY, alongside the real estate development pair Hossein and Ivana Goal — set up shop at 3401 Fairfax Drive earlier this year.


The artist behind Arlington’s countless posters satirizing local politicians has launched a new outdoor pop-up studio and zine.

Live music, cookouts and other festivities are coming to neighborhoods around Arlington next week in an annual partnership with the Arlington County Police Department.

National Night Out, an event where police officers attend outdoor, community-building events in neighborhoods around their jurisdiction, is next Tuesday.
