A local pastry personality is hosting a festival for cake creators in Clarendon next month.

Chanise Nycole, a cake decorator with over 30,000 TikTok followers, announced in a video that she’ll be hosting Cake Fest DMV on Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Arlington Beer Garden (3217 10th Street N.).

A colorful new look and refreshments have arrived for the summer on The Clarendon Ballroom’s rooftop.

The three-level bar and events venue recently renovated its rooftop — renamed “The Deck” — with latticework, more seating and summery, Mediterranean-inspired decor and food. It is the first pop-up theme in what the Ballroom team hopes to make a rotating series throughout the year.

A new tavern with Appalachian charm and an Italian American-inspired menu will soon open for business in Clarendon.

Nettie’s Tavern, opening Monday, Aug. 11 in part of the former Whitlow’s space, is named after a beloved family friend of Arlington restaurateur Reese Gardner. The Appalachia native met Nettie, who he identified only by her first name, six years ago in a bar near Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Perspire Sauna Studio is in development across the street from the Clarendon Metro station, according to public records and new storefront signage. The company claims that its infrared sauna and therapy services, available in packages and monthly memberships, come with numerous health benefits.

A 27-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly trying to knife someone during an early morning altercation near Clarendon’s bar district.

It happened around 2 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Washington Blvd and N. Garfield Street. The man “became agitated” while talking to the male victim and tried to strike him with a knife, according to Arlington County police.

A boutique fitness studio is gearing up to replace a former yoga center in Clarendon.

Megaformer plans to open this winter at 1016 N. Garfield Street, in the vacant retail bay next to Pure Barre. The space was formerly held by the yoga studio Sukha Center, which closed last year.

A new restaurant and sushi bar has opened with aspirations of introducing Clarendon to a Japanese-inspired music program.

Oasis: The Listening Bar opened its doors at 2940 Clarendon Blvd earlier this month, filling a vacancy left by Cava Mezze. Modeled after Japanese “listening bars,” the restaurant plans to host frequent live performances and DJ nights.

A veggie-forward American restaurant with New York City roots expects to open its doors later this month in Clarendon.

Westville plans to serve brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks in a laid-back atmosphere at 2800 Clarendon Blvd, where Jos. A. Bank closed. It expects to open for dine-in service on Monday, July 14, with aspirations of becoming a trusted “neighborhood restaurant,” founder Jay Strauss told ARLnow.

A pair of seemingly dramatic police actions rattled locals in two Arlington neighborhoods yesterday.

The first happened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on N. Highland Street near Clarendon Blvd and the Trader Joe’s store in Clarendon. Tipsters described a sudden rush of unmarked and marked police units making an arrest with guns drawn.
