Outdoor ice skating is back at the Westpost shopping center in Pentagon City.

The outdoor ice rink at 1201 S. Joyce Street announced yesterday that it has returned for the 2024-2025 season, offering lessons and public skating hours seven days a week. That’s despite predicted high temperatures in the 60s, 70s and — today — 80s over the next ten days.

A man has been arrested and charged with brandishing a gun at a local hotel.

The incident started shortly before 6 a.m. at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Pentagon City, according to scanner traffic, and ended with an arrest at gunpoint near the Army Navy Drive side of the Pentagon City mall.

One of the largest marathon races in the country is returning to Arlington this weekend with planned road closures and festivities.

On Sunday, the 49th Marine Corps Marathon — dubbed “The People’s Marathon” — will kick off at 7:55 a.m. at Route 110, between the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery.

Amid ongoing construction delays, plans have changed for Arlington Community High School’s (ACHS) relocation in 2026.

The high school — currently located in an office building in Ballston — was originally set to relocate to PenPlace, the planned second phase of Amazon’s HQ2 campus in Pentagon City.

A suspect is accused of cutting a police officer with the officer’s own knife yesterday (Thursday) following a reported theft in Pentagon City.

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. in the 900 block of Army Navy Drive, near the Westpost at National Landing shopping center.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Posh Salon, on the ground floor of the Lenox Club apartment building at 401 12th Street S.

More corporate hotel rooms and up to 1.8 million square feet of development are on track to come to Pentagon City following votes last weekend.

An approved amendment to the Pentagon City Phased Development Site Plan would allow for the redevelopment of two aging office buildings just east of the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. The change does not come with specific plans for new development, but tentative proposals call for up to 1,675 new dwelling units and 70,000 square feet of retail space.

Amazon’s HQ2 Community Day is back on the calendar.

Three months after an excessive heat watch postponed festivities indefinitely, the event is now scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21 — promising a variety of activities for adults and kids alike.

Arlington is collecting feedback on a plan to bring over 1,500 new apartments to the RiverHouse development in Pentagon City.

Respondents have until Sunday, Sept. 22 to submit feedback on a site plan application to bring 1,515 more apartments to 1111 Army Navy Drive, 1400 S. Joyce Street and 1600 S. Joyce Street. This round of public feedback kicked off on Sept. 9.

Two places in Pentagon City are hosting free, family friendly outdoor movie nights this fall.

Westpost, the retail center formerly known as Pentagon Row, is slated to begin its Movies on the Plaza series tomorrow night (Wednesday) with a showing of “Barbie” at 1201 S. Joyce Street.

The company, whose Arlington employees currently work from HQ2 at least three days a week, is “going to return to being in the office the way we were before the onset of COVID.”

A robbery at the Pentagon City mall Sunday afternoon caused a panic that sent shoppers fleeing and prompted a massive police response.

The incident started around 3:30 p.m. after Arlington County police received multiple reports of shots fired and smoke seen inside the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. Arriving officers found people running from the mall and broken glass in front of the Tourneau watch and jewelry store.
