    Police and firefighters rescued a man precariously stuck in the mud near Roosevelt Island this morning.

    Initial reports suggest that a man in his 70s became stuck in the mud while trying to retrieve a walking stick between the Mount Vernon Trail and the Potomac River. Per scanner traffic, he sank in the mud until he was nearly neck-deep, prompting a large rescue response.

    Sports

    The winter sports season is now complete for all four high schools in Arlington. Now it’s on to the busy multi-sport outdoor spring season.

    The regular season is just getting started, with only a few events in the coming week, but many scrimmage contests are being played. The full regular-season schedules begin the week of March 17.


    Weather

    Arlington and much of the D.C. area is under a Wind Advisory, set to go into effect later today.

    The National Weather Service says gusts of up to 55 mph are expected. That could fell trees and large branches, bringing down power and other utility lines.
