The Arlington School Board is setting the stage for a process that would evaluate the Arlington County Police Department’s role in Arlington Public Schools.
The School Board heard an update from APS staff on the relationship between APS and ACPD’s School Resource Officers (SROs) last night.

Question: How does home value appreciation vary in Arlington by property type?
Answer: The Arlington VA housing market has appreciated by an average price of 49% and a median price of 39% over a ten-year period, but that appreciation is not evenly distributed across all property types.
Detached Homes Appreciate Over 60%
Those who spend the most on a home benefit from the highest appreciation rates, with detached home appreciation of 60%+ over the course of a decade, and new detached homes appreciating the most of any property type, at 65%.
Condos Appreciate 1-2% Annually
The worst performing category over ten years in Arlington is the one-bedroom condo, with appreciation close to 1% annually and just 15% over ten years. Two-bedroom condos perform moderately better, with an average annual appreciation closer to 2% at 28% over ten years.
Townhouses are the Goldilocks Property Type
More expensive than condos and less expensive than detached homes, townhouse/semi-detached properties fall right in the middle of cost and ten-year rate of appreciation, coming in at 40% over ten years. (more…)

The Lee Highway Alliance (LHA), which is spearheading a renaming process for the east-west commuter artery also known as Route 29, today announced the 25 members of a Working Group charged with coming up with new names.
A month ago, new coronavirus cases were on the rise in Arlington, amid a lull in hospitalizations and deaths.
Now, cases have been on a downward slope since last weekend, but hospitalizations and fatalities continue to rise, as those getting infected are increasingly those on the older half of the demographic chart.

The father of a man killed in Arlington’s Green Valley neighborhood this spring has been arrested and charged with his murder.
Marshall Stephens, 45, was found dead the evening of April 23, in the driver’s seat of a car parked on the 1900 block of S. Lowell Street. Police said Thursday that 65-year-old Marshall Stephens, Sr. shot and killed his son in a “domestic-related homicide.”

Condo inventory shrinks for the first time in nine weeks! Arlington’s available inventory as a whole declined, while demand remains very strong.
Northern and eastern portions of Arlington County are now under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning.
The tail end of a strong storm that brought high winds and possibly tornadoes to Montgomery County is expected to blow through part of the county.
Arlington and much of the region is under a Tornado Watch from now through 10 p.m.
Forecasters say storms now forming to the west could pack strong winds and even some tornadoes. Those in the watch zone are urged to keep an eye on the sky, and to take cover if necessary.
