Snow is expected mainly after 1pm with a high near 34, while the calm wind will transition into a southeast breeze around 6 mph in the afternoon. Precipitation chances are at 90% with a potential 1-3 inches of new snow. By Tuesday night, the low will be around 31, and the east wind will become northeast after midnight at about 6 mph. Schools

Arlington Public Schools students will go home two hours early Tuesday, as a winter storm gets underway.

The early dismissal was announced Monday evening, after a Winter Storm Warning was issued for the area, calling for 4-8 inches of snow from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday morning.


Weather

Arlington and the rest of the D.C. area are gearing up for significant snowfall.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning this afternoon, to take effect at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Some 4-8 inches of snow are expected to fall by the time the flakes taper off Wednesday morning.


Around Town

Coyotes are here to stay.

That’s the message from Arlington County’s top naturalist after a series of coyote sightings around the area.

Wreckage Recovered from River — “All major pieces from the plane and helicopter involved in the Jan. 29 collision near Reagan National Airport have been relocated… Officials had been offloading the helicopter wreckage and some plane debris from a barge on Friday.     Snow and sleet are expected before 1pm, transitioning to a mix of snow, freezing rain, and sleet until 4pm, followed by rain and freezing rain possibly mixed with sleet. Highs will be near 33 with a southeast wind of 3-8 mph. An 80% chance of precipitation is predicted, with little to no ice accumulation and less than half an inch of snow/sleet. Saturday night will bring rain and possible sleet, turning into all rain after 7pm as temperatures rise to 39 by 3am. Southeast winds of 5-8 mph will become westerly after midnight.     It’s going to be a slippery Saturday in Arlington and most of the D.C. area.

    Snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected throughout much of the day, starting with snow in the morning. The frozen precipitation is expected to make travel tricky, though temperatures are expected to remain above freezing during most of the storm and an overnight refreeze is not currently expected.
