With age comes wisdom — sometimes, at least — and in the case of one Arlington group of civic leaders, it brings a sense of humor, too.

They call themselves the Geezers. Among their ranks are two retired judges, a trio of former elected officials, several lobbyists and — a Geezer-in-waiting — the current clerk of the circuit court.


A local couple is hoping to bring a new method of rest and relaxation to Arlington: Finnish saunas.

Entrepreneurs Steven and Kira Hu are currently scouting locations to launch Arlington Sauna, a “pop-up village” with wood fires and cold plunges based on a popular practice in Finland.


An Arlington preschool is seeking donations of footwear to support families around the world.

The Children’s School is asking for “gently used, wearable shoes” in either adult’s or children’s sizes through Tuesday, Dec. 16.

A holiday toy drive born out of pandemic-era restrictions returned last weekend to the Yorktown neighborhood.

Knights of Columbus Arlington Council 2473 once again hosted a drop-off collection site for Toys for Tots, continuing a tradition of spreading cheer to local children.


After just over a year in business, a Pentagon City cafe selling baked goods and lunch items has shuttered — apparently making way for another cafe.

The windows of Mae’s Market and Cafe are papered over at 1450 S. Eads Street with signs advertising another tenant: Maman, a New York City-based chain that opened its first Arlington location in Courthouse this fall.

Two nature centers in Arlington are collecting letters to Santa Claus along with food donations this holiday season.

Both the Gulf Branch Nature Center (3608 Military Road) and the Long Branch Nature Center (625 S. Carlin Springs Road) are collecting Santa letters through Dec. 24.


A long-awaited sports bar in Virginia Square plans to open its doors early next year.

Mid-February is the current target for Wood & Iron, a Richmond-based business selling classic bar favorites like jumbo pretzels, smoked jalapeño poppers, burgers and wings, co-owner Steve Rogge told ARLnow.
