Beyer on Reopening Vote — Rep. Don Beyer (D-8) on Tuesday told ARLnow he expects today’s expected vote in the U.S. House of Representatives to reopen the federal government will pass with all Republicans and perhaps a handful of Democrats supporting it. Arlington County police are investigating gunfire early Sunday morning in the Hall’s Hill neighborhood.

The shot rang out around 3:30 a.m., according to an ACPD crime report, but no one was hurt and no damage was reported. While investigating, police arrested a Maryland man on drug related charges.

Stephen Miller Case Update — “Late Wednesday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Lindsey Vaala denied the FBI’s petition for a warrant to search the smartphone owned by the suspect in the case, a 66-year-old retiree named Barbara Wien. The Justice Department plans to appeal, a source told Axios. Reagan National Airport is “expecting significant delays and cancellations through this evening due to air traffic reductions.”

The airport urged those with flight reservations “to monitor their flight status closely with their airline,” according to a social post Friday afternoon. As of 5 p.m., the FAA listed average flight delays of four hours at Reagan National, attributing the delays to “staffing” issues.

Around Town

ARLnow is now using Column, an industry-standard tech platform, to handle public notice submissions.

The new system replaces a more rudimentary process that did not allow for account creation, notice templates and publication previews. We have also significantly lowered the price of most notice submissions and are no longer charging extra for invoicing.

Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport are among the 40 that will see flights cut starting Friday due to the government shutdown, according to a list distributed to the airlines.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced Wednesday that it would reduce air traffic by 10% across 40 “high-volume” markets to maintain travel safety as air traffic controllers exhibit signs of strain during the ongoing government shutdown.
