Arlington’s first outpost of a popular D.C.-area pizza chain is expected to land in Virginia Square this winter.

Construction is underway on Andy’s Pizza at 901 N. Pollard Street, formerly home to Ballston Place Gourmet. The restaurant, which has been in the works since at least July 2023, hopes to open in December or January, employees told ARLnow.

The underground Dunkin’ over the Crystal City Metro station has closed.

“At this time, I don’t have any information on whether this is a temporary or permanent closure,” Dunkin’ spokesperson Hannah Goldstein told ARLnow in reference to the location at 1687 Crystal Square Arcade.

Unlike some places in other parts of the country, Arlington does not designate an official day and time for trick-or-treating. Instead, the annual, costumed candy-gathering spree takes place on Halloween — Thursday, Oct. 31 this year — and starts shortly before sunset.

As fall colors sweep across the D.C. area, Arlington leaf collection season begins in two weeks.

Crews are expected to begin passing through Arlington neighborhoods starting Monday, Nov. 11, according to a tentative schedule. Residents are encouraged to rake leaves to the curb the weekend before their civic association’s posted start date.

The ARLnow Press Club has 120 new members and we want to sincerely extend our appreciation to those who stepped up to — and continue to — support local news.

We put out the call to email newsletter subscribers earlier this week that we needed some help, at least temporarily, to support a larger newsroom following our GazetteLeader acquisition last month. Arlington was in danger of losing the GazetteLeader’s comprehensive local government and sports coverage had the acquisition not happened.
